Restricted zones for model aircraft and drones

The operation of model aircraft and drones weighing between 0.5 and 30 kg is prohibited within 5 km of the runways of a civil or military airfield in accordance with article 17, paragraph 2, letters a and b of the DETEC Ordinance on Special Category Aircraft (OSCA; SR 748.941). These areas are shown on the map as no-fly zones (5 km from the runway). The airport manager can define a smaller zone, adapted to local conditions, to replace the 5 km circle. In addition, their operation in active control zones (CTR) is prohibited at an altitude of over 150 m. These areas are shown on the map as limited no-fly zones (150 m above the ground). Exemptions around airfields and in control zones (CTR) referred to in Art. 18 (1) (a) of OSCA may be authorised as follows: by the air traffic control unit in consultation with the airport manager if the aerodrome is provided with air traffic services; in the other cases by the airport manager. The operation of civil, unmanned aircraft is forbidden in water and migratory bird reserves in accordance with article 5 paragraph fbis of the Ordinance on Water and Migratory Bird Reserves of International and National Importance (WMBRO; SR 922.32) and in game reserves in accordance with article 5 paragraph fbis of the Ordinance on Federal Game Reserves FGEO; SR 922.31). Based on article 1 of Federal Act on the Swiss National Park in the Canton of Graubünden (National Park Act, SR 454) and the associated cantonal Park Regulation (Nationalparkordnung), the Swiss National Park in the Engadin and Münstertal in the Canton of Graubünden is a reserve where nature is protected against any human intrusions (and therefore also against the use of unmanned aircraft). These areas are shown on the map as no-fly zones (wildlife reserves). Exemptions for wildlife conservation areas may be authorised by the Federal Office for the Environment based on Article 14 paragraph 3 of the federal hunting law (JSG; SR 922.0). Responsibility for granting authorisation has been delegated to the cantons. Exemptions in the Swiss National Park may be authorised by the Federal National Park Commission based on Article 6 of the park regulation. Further areas with permanent flight bans are shown on the map as no-fly zones (other permanent restrictions based on federal law). Applications for exemption permits may be made to the relevant authorities.
